Job Overview:

In this role, you will take charge of leading the department, monitoring daily functions, supervising and training department staff members, and collaborating with the multi-disciplinary team in delivering patient care. Your responsibilities also encompass the application of the nursing process to ensure top-tier care to patients.

Minimum Prerequisites

Education:

  • Completion of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from a recognized institution is obligatory, or an outlined plan and schedule to complete the BSN.
  • For specific roles within our network of hospitals, a BSN is mandatory at the time of induction or promotion.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Current license to practice professional nursing or a temporary/compact license
  • Basic Life Support Certification is a must
  • Professional certification in a specific clinical area or management is preferred
  • Additional certifications might be necessary based on the discipline or unit requirements

Experience / Skills:

  • A minimum of three years of relevant clinical experience
  • At least one year in a supervisory or management role

Key Accountabilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of a patient care department, which includes managing staffing, addressing departmental calls, planning for continuity of care, and providing direct patient care as required
  • Work closely with physicians, management team members, business partners, and clients to address strategic initiatives and organizational objectives
  • Actively participate in a systemic, interdisciplinary, and continuous evaluation of programs, process improvement, and patient-centered outcomes
  • Cater to the diverse needs of each patient throughout the continuum of care, delivering the highest level of service according to established standards, and enhance the patient experience
  • Ensure adequate staffing, recruit and mentor staff, provide performance feedback, resolve issues as needed, and offer input into staff performance reviews
  • Adhere to all regulatory standards and all policies, procedures, and standards of our organization
  • Foster individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory and continuing education and skills competency; support department-based goals that contribute to the success of our organization; serve as a mentor and resource to less experienced staff
  • Additional duties may be assigned as required.

Other Details:

  • The healthcare facility holds a specific trauma designation level.
  • The role involves oversight of a small unit with approximately 20 FTEs and a larger unit with around 80 FTEs, which accommodates all cases except specific ones.
  • The role will receive administrative support from an Assistant Manager.
